The Small Message to Government of Japan

I am Heng Suthy, Cambodian; I am currently doing master degree program in the field of Remote Sensing and Geographic Information system, School of Engineering and Technology at Asian Institute of Technology (AIT). I enrolled the graduated program since August, 2004 under the scholarship supported by The Japanese Government.

Almost two-year period of my academic study in AIT, I've taken many courses within my field as well as other fields of study which are related to the environmental monitoring, Social development and engineering. I am feeling fully that I have got many experiences and newly concepts which I had never had during my time in Cambodia. In addition, I have many chances to participate in some international activities including international symposiums as well as newly discovery researches presented by some famous scientists and also some technical trainings opportunities. It is a very great opportunity for me to earn a lot of knowledge and experiences within a multi-cultural of different nationalities for living, working, understanding and learning together as a big community.

As this is a final semester in AIT, I am now doing master thesis research under a strong supervision of Dr. Junichi Susaki, Japanese faculty who have very high professional in GIS and RS technology. As a result that he has provided me a lot of concepts, chances, and valuable advices, my thesis process is going smoothingly and hopefully it will be completed in the next coming moths of this year. Unfortunately, the Japanese scholarship as well as my best and very helpful JICA-seconded Japanese advisor who have high expertise and can be supportive to many AIT students study for advanced knowledge and experiences might be finished from AIT in the next coming year. I think that without supportive of all Japanese experts, the quality of education of AIT would be degraded.

Through out the varieties of experiences, knowledge as well as crossing with multi-cultural relation, they are very valuable resources for my future profession as well as for participating in the rehabilitation and construction phase of my home country.

After my graduation, I'm very interested in working with some international organizations which are carrying out with some researches related to GIS and RS development and trainings, environmental monitoring as well as disaster monitoring which can provide highly benefit to reduce of poverty in my country as well as beneficial to all people in society. In addition, I have strong intention to participate in improvement of the educational sector of my home country to be as good as developed countries such as Japan.

As you may be aware that GIS and RS technology is playing a very important role in term of environmental monitoring and assessments with high efficiency development, it is a very sophisticated technology that can be a most appropriate for applying in the country where natural resources are being degraded such as my home country. Therefore, I have strong willingness to share all my knowledge and experiences to all young Cambodian through trainings and researching activities. Even though I will get my degree in master of sciences from AIT, I think that my knowledge still has limitation for assisting in the phase of my country development demand. Initially, I always have very strong willingness to study in higher post graduate degree after I finish my master degree in AIT. Therefore, my time in AIT is very valuable and beneficial for myself future as well as participating in my country development.

As the current situation in Cambodia, Japanese government is playing a very important role in the phase of this country development sectors. Japanese government is still providing a lot of their own resources in term of budgeting and technical supporting for assisting in social, educational, agricultural, and political as well as infrastructural development within the goal of Cambodian poverty reduction and sustainable development.

Among all donated countries in term of supporting to Cambodia development and improvement, Japanese government is considering as the first order country which provide a lot of donation to improving and rehabilitating in many sectors of Cambodia.

In the educational sector, without the fully scholarship from the government of Japan, some of Cambodian students and I would not have very high opportunity to earning a post graduate degree in AIT as well as Japanese institutes any more. Therefore, with your very kindness and uncounted support to myself as well as my home country, it is my great pleasure to express heartiest gratitude and appreciations to Japanese Government for providing me with scholarship to study at AIT and a grant to conduct thesis research. Again, as a Cambodian citizen, I would like to express my sincere gratefulness heartily thanks to government of Japan that always providing a lot of resources to supportive my country in term of development.

I strongly believe that your supportiveness still have more effectiveness to our country development; thus, I do hope that your supportiveness to us are continuous especially in term of providing more full scholarship to gain higher post graduate degree in AIT as well as others Japanese institute to our Cambodian students.

With warmly sincerely yours,

Heng Suthy
